“Honestly, I couldn’t believe it at first,” he says. “Winning my first World Title is something I dreamed about for years.” His brother was on the podium with him. “Seeing him next to me made it even more special. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.”
The conditions in Greece didn’t make it easy. Full onshore, strong and gusty, the kind of wind that punishes bad timing. “You had to take off with the right gust if you wanted to land your biggest tricks,” Leonardo says. It’s familiar territory. He trains in exactly this in the Canary Islands. “So I felt comfortable even out there.”
A week later, it’s still sinking in. “It still feels a bit unreal,” he says. “Every day it sinks in a little more.” Messages have kept coming, from friends, family, people who’ve followed the journey for years.
It would be easy to treat a World Title at seventeen as the finish line. Leonardo doesn’t. His father coaches him. His brother pushes him daily. “Winning this title shows that all those years of hard work were worth it. But I still have many goals I want to achieve.”
After the result was confirmed, the team celebrated together. “Sharing this moment with my family, my brother, and everyone who’s been part of this journey was probably the best part,” he says. “They all sacrificed so much to help me get here.”
One title down. By his own words, this is only the start.
